MoN Takanawa's rooftop restaurant. Named LAUBE, which means "a hut in the shade of the grass" in German, its concept is "a sanctuary floating in the city sky, where one can quietly receive the lingering echoes of culture." It functions as a place to quietly receive the afterglow of a cultural experience at MoN Takanawa, or as a small escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to rediscover one's own identity.
The spatial design was handled by Hideyuki Nakayama of Nakayama Hideyuki Architects. While using unadorned materials such as cement boards and white tiles, inspired by LAUBE, a "tool shed in the corner of the garden," the design also incorporates rounded edges in the points of contact between people and objects, such as placing hardwood armrests on the furniture that people touch. It paints a picture of the world of LAUBE, which quietly stands as the backdrop for the time that visitors weave.
The cuisine focuses on seasonal ingredients from various locations along the JR East railway lines. Just as ekiben (train station bento boxes) condense the memories of a journey into a single dish, LAUBE's plates also bring together Narratives from different regions. We offer a variety of flavorful dishes, including plates and soups centered around vegetables and grains, freshly baked sandwiches, homemade sweets such as cakes and baked goods, and takeout options that can be enjoyed on the terrace.
On weekend evenings, the venue transforms into "Craft Night Terrace," offering a time to enjoy craft drinks and light meals while soaking up the city's night breeze. Seasonal cocktails created in collaboration with mitosaya Herb Garden Distillery are available, and mocktails from "CAN-PANY," a shop established by mitosaya in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, are available for takeout.
In the future, we plan to incorporate herbs and fruits grown in our rooftop garden, "MoN Farm," into our menu.
It is a new urban "sanctuary" where the cycles of nature and the memories of culture blend together.
